Product information

Opinel pocket knife No.9 with a carbon steel blade - a reliable and durable helper in any situation. This is the ideal Opinel knife for travel, picnics, barbecues, hiking or other outdoor activities. The quality of Opinel knives is ensured by a century of manufacturing and family business experience. Made in France.

FEATURES:

Blade

The blade length of the Opinel pocket knife No. 9 is 9 cm, it is made of carbon steel. The first Opinel pocket knives were made of carbon steel. Blades made of this steel are famous for their extremely high quality and durability. The carbon content in such steel is about 0.90%, so the blade is very strong, retains its sharpness well and sharpens easily. Carbon steel is first smelted in Germany, and then the alloy is finally processed in France. Carbon steel knives require more care than Opinel stainless steel knives. It is recommended that Opinel pocket knives made of carbon steel are not stored in a humid environment, and should be thoroughly dried and lubricated after use. All blades made of carbon steel can oxidize over time and acquire a dark gray color - but this does not harm the sharpness or quality of the knife.

The traditional Opinel blade is a yataghan-style blade. This shape was inspired by the curved point of a Turkish sword. The yataghan-style blade has a convex profile, which gives it strength and allows for multiple sharpening.

Handle

Opinel usually uses beech wood for its handles. Beechwood, grown on French farms, is hard, weather-resistant, and easy to work with. The wood appears uniform, and its light color can range from yellow to pink. Beech wood can be recognized by its numerous dark streaks. To protect the handle from moisture and dirt, it is varnished.

Virobloc safety ring
Opinel pocket knife No. 9, like all other curved Opinel knives starting with No. 6, has the Virobloc safety ring invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955. The Virobloc ring, cut from stainless steel, consists of two parts: a fixed and a sliding one. The blade is fixed both in the unfolded position (to ensure safety when using the knife) and in the folded position (to ensure safety when transporting the knife).
