FEATURES:

Blade

The blade length of the Opinel No. 7 knife is 8 cm. The blade, made of Sandvik modified and adapted for Opinel knives 12C27 stainless steel, is famous for its extremely high quality and easy daily maintenance. The steel is hardened by heat treatment using martensitic hardening. The carbon content in such steel is not less than 0.40%, so the blade is of very high quality and resistant to corrosion.

Handle

Opinel usually uses beech wood for its handles. Beechwood, grown on French farms, is hard, weather-resistant, and easy to work with. The wood appears uniform, and its light color can range from yellow to pink. Beech wood can be recognized by its numerous dark streaks. To protect the handle from moisture and dirt, it is varnished.

Virobloc safety ring
My first Opinel knife No. 7, like all other curved Opinel knives starting with No. 6, has the Virobloc safety ring invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955. The Virobloc ring, cut from stainless steel, consists of two parts: a fixed one and a sliding one. The blade is fixed both in the unfolded position (to ensure safety when using the knife) and in the folded position (to ensure safety when transporting the knife).
